KFC
51 KFC Restaurants across NSW
April 2009
Client:QSR Pty Ltd
Project Management:Beraldo Design
Brief:Statewide rollout of Krush Bars
Info:For this statewide rollout, the aim
was to provide our client with enhanced time to market through effective
Installation and Commissioning (I&C). Vegagroup was contracted to perform
the roll-out across NSW, from the heart of Sydney to the remote country
regions.
The planning began early in the process following specific sites
assessment visits to establish the guidelines, which are to be propagated
across multiple sites. Planning was essential in order to avoid costly
retro-fits, aborted I&C visits and hence project delays leading to overruns
at critical stages of the roll-out.
The first local stores presented
us with the many variables that we might face. An irregular bench top
here, a different colour tile there, a specific detour in electrical
here and a myriad of little things that needed to be classified and
accounted for. So we boiled down the variables and documented them so
they’re not
unknown any more thus reducing the surprises.
At the beginning of every
week and for the next six weeks, our skilled tradesmen loaded their
trucks with the materials and everything they need, kissed their families
goodbye and took off on another adventure. There were painters, tilers,
gyprockers, electricians, plumbers & leading
hands. All co-ordinated and geared up for the task at hand.
What a feeling to
be part of this Vegagroup team. The mission was to bring delicious krushers to
the taste buds of many. They dreamt of all the happy faces of diners slurping
and licking those tasty Krushers with real chunky, chewy crushed bitz. Golden
Gaytime got to be it! Have you tried that? It’s a taste revolution.
It’s not for
the faint hearted to perform 51 upgrades in record time and on budget. The feedback
was 100% positive from our client and that’s what matters.
Sure we had a lot of travelling to do. Think of driving to the countryside like
a trip to outer space. As a travelling tradesman, when you travel you have to
take with you everything you need because you cannot afford to come back just
because you forgot something; That’s why planning played an enormous role prior
to commencement. Sometimes, even planning cannot save the day when we came across
the variables. Hence careful improvisation with the help of past experiences
on similar installations helped us to go beyond the brief if necessary to get
the job done, even ahead of schedule.
As of this writing,
Krushers are only available in NSW, SA & Qld. In the Classic range, look for
Golden Gaytime, Chocolate Cornetto, Kookies'n Kreme. If you’re a smoothies kind
of a person, look for Strawberry, Mixed Berry & Mango. And if you love fruit
bits, try the Mango Berry or Mixed Berry. To check the complete Jrushers range
in its colourful bits, click

KFC
51 KFC Restaurants across NSW
April 2009
Client:QSR Pty Ltd
Project Management:Beraldo Design
Brief:Statewide rollout of internal
Rotating Menuboards
Info:The rollout of the new internal rotating
menuboards went hand-in-hand with our installation of the Krush Bars.
In a sense, it was a double project. All interior fixed menuboards
were replaced with their modern rotating counterparts, providing two-sided
menu reference. A sorely needed upgrade which revitalised the brightness
of the counter area with beautiful colours and clear food shots. Again,
the old menuboards weren’t
created equal. Every restaurant presented a particular twist or turn; relocating
ceiling services; cameras, light fittings, air-conditioning and registers or
even relocating the bulkhead.
Better visualised in four stages, existing menuboards
were dismantled & disposed of, relocations of services and make good preparation
works behind existing menuboards readying the area to install & position the
new 120kg ceiling mounted menuboards (standard 12 panel from Coates) coupled
with ceiling reinforcement as per generic store reinforcement.

Hungry Jack’s
Westfield Shoppingtown Tuggerah
Level 1, Store# 1112
April 2009
Client:Competitive Foods Australia Pty Ltd
Project Management:Clifton Development Consultants
Brief:Fit-out of new food court tenancy
and remote storeroom
Info:As is with the majority of in-line
fit-outs or refurbishments, some controls are built within the execution
of works. As opposed to freestanding restaurants, in-line stores require
even finer planning and co-ordination. For example, there are building
procedures and codes specific for tenancy upgrade works and they differ
from one shopping centre to another.
The line of communication between
Vegagroup and Westfield’s Centre Management was initiated as early in
the process as possible to make sure we have approval for the various
planned works and their nature, the project schedule and equipments
deployed. The earlier these pre-construction tasks were put in place,
the sooner the Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Centre Induction
can take place for works to commence.
So we hit the ground running
on April 14th with various trades
operating in parallel. Works was scheduled
appropriately taking in consideration the possible impact of various
works on the day-to-day life of the centre. Due to their nature,
certain trades were assigned for after hours, alternating and spreading
the load.
Our Electrical Team made the site safe, chased wirings and
relocated existing switchboards. Also ceiling grid works, gyprocking,
walls sheeting took place in earnest. Almost few days later mechanical
services and hydraulics were established, structural steel in place
as well as work on the freezer cool room commenced. This was followed
by epoxy work on floors and walls and the establishment of POS, data
and phone system. Ten days into the project, and the restaurant started
to look closer to the end product especially with the installation
of the front counter frame, servery area, Corian bench tops and bulkhead,
painting and tiling of all major areas. Simultaneously, kitchen equipment
was installed along with the construction of the manager’s
desk.
The Hungry Jack’s Tuggerah restaurant was handed over on April 28th
with full success, almost two weeks following commencement.

KFC
26
Restaurants
April 2009
Client:QSR Pty Ltd
Project Management:Beraldo Design
Brief:Roll-out of services for Rotational Ovens / Rational Self Cooking Centre SCC61
Info:The installation of the rotational ovens preceded the introduction of the new KFC Cayan Grill chicken burger in Australia.
The Rational Self Cooking Centre or SCC61 is the work horse of the kitchen yet small in size. This unit takes the least amount of space, simple to use and allows for multiple cooking methods. One single unit producing roasted, baked, grilled & fried foods.
The launch of Cayan Grill signifies the beginning of a new era. KFC menu options are being contemporised or even evolutionised.
Our installation deadline was two weeks before the official launch, enough time for KFC staff training on the new menu.
The Cayan Grill Burger was launched on the evening of Sunday 13th June, where thousands of customers lined outside KFC’s participating stores. Thousands of free Cayan Grill Burgers were distributed, a tasty reward for those who wanted to be the first to taste-test the delicious new range.
As is the situation with multi-site installations running on programmed deadlines, planning is of the essence. Can you imagine the consequences? No way sir. We do not want to be responsible and deny so many anxious burger lovers from this experience.
Prior to execution, Vegagroup established an action team for a limited but live installation for processes and methods establishment. All the criteria were identified and structured, processes and sub-processes charted while accounting for the ins and outs.
The building works preparation for the Rational Self Cooking Center SCC61 encompassed several components: Establishing location, supplying gas, electrical, fresh water and cutting concrete to establish drainage.
Establishing location wasn’t always as straight forward as it should, sometimes a reshuffle or relocations was necessary to make room and locate appropriately under the rangehood.
Given that the SCC61 is a self cleaning oven, drainage was accommodated by appropriately saw cutting through the epoxy slabs.
In brief, the established process helped to clarify our client’s objective for our people and tradespeople. Nothing was left for surprises, and we hit the road and highways, visiting unknown sleepy towns and crazy bustling CBD’s.

Hungry Jack’s
Figtree
March 2009
Client:Competitive Foods Australia Pty Ltd
Project Management:Vegagroup
Brief:Restaurant lighting upgrade
Info:This lighting upgrade was aimed to boost energy efficiency in various Hungry Jack’s restaurants by renewing all existing lights in the dining and front counter areas with more efficient and newer ceiling lights.
The two essential ingredients for perfect restaurant lighting are atmosphere and zoning. Overall, the lighting should be subtle but walkways, service zones and such areas should be more brightly lit. Tables and other seating areas called for a relaxing atmosphere. The newly installed ceramic metal halide over the dining area are bright enough for food and drink to be seen in their best light, creating a warm & appetising presentation of food but subdued enough to create a sense of privacy.
The brilliant white halogen lights provided an obvious boost. Alcoves, projections and recesses in walls and ceilings were given greater prominence.

Wilson Parking
P21 Citipark
February 2009
Client:Wilson Parking
Project Management:Vegagroup
Brief:Thorough carpark overhaul
Info:Complete car park maintenance and
management is rapidly growing in importance to astute property owners.
More and more business managers agree that customers' first impressions
are formed as they enter and use the car park. If it is clean, well lit
and well managed, customers feel more confident about the level of service
they might expect. They also feel secure.
CitiPark is continually teaming
with activities; from the casual to the permanent parkers. That’s not
a strange for a location at the heart of the CBD.
Our mission was to
give the multi-level carpark an effective face-lift. Painting was performed
by a team of five painters working around the clock. Electrical, building
works & carpeting took place simultaneously and followed by a maintenance
team to apply the finishing touches. All areas were covered, from the
exits and entries to the many foyers, walkways and stairwells. A traffic
management plan was put in place to control & direct traffic around the
o’clock in the areas affected by our work. This was executed by three
full-time traffic controllers.
