Eurasia Marathon / Istanbul
November 2006
Event:Eurasia Marathon
Info:This marathon is the marathon
where two continents meet. The Eurasia Marathon is organized by Istanbul’s
Municipality. It starts from the Anatolian side of Istanbul and ends at
the European side, crossing the most beautiful spots in Istanbul. The
Bosphorus River flows right alongside you as you run across roads and
bridges.
Running at Istanbul was a challenge as the temperature was minus 3
degrees at 09:00am and it felt gradually colder as we sweated through
the race, which even felt longer than usual (The weather bureau forecast
was about 9 Celsius.).
So going slowly, I had plenty of time to gaze
at the scenery and think about what makes Istanbul special as one-foot
chased the other on the flat asphalt surface.
I ran passed the blue
mosque of Hagia Sophia and in all crossing three bridges, one over the
Bosphorus and two over the Golden Horn linking the European section of
Istanbul.
What a place this town is, capital of 3 empires.
I was definitely looking forward for a good rub & scrub afterward,
but feeling cold and exhausted I retired to a hot Turkish bath in my hotel.

Hungry Jack's
Macquarie Centre
October 2006
Client:Hungry Jack's
Project Management:Beraldo Design
Brief:Upgrade of store front counter
Info:Macquarie Centre is located north
of the Sydney CBD at North Ryde. The centre covers more than 95,000m 2
and has 240 specialty stores over four levels and is managed by AMP
Capital Shopping Centres.
The refurbishment of the centre’s popular
Food Court is now complete, and customers are already enjoying the
improved layout and wider choice of food outlets, with a total of 18 stores.
Refurbished
stores include Jamaica Blue, Appetito's, RJ's Sandwich Works, Tandoori
Connection, Bamboo Garden, Ken's Bento Box, Xquisito, Hungry Jack’s
and Donut King, which have also relocated to a new kiosk.
Vegagroup
was engaged for the upgrade of Hungry Jack’s front
counter. The new look featured red colour glass front complementing
white Corian counter tops. Also the elimination of the front store
shutters thus maximising visibility.
Vegagroup coordinated with the centre management (AMP) for site induction,
access to loading docks, and acceptable hours of work and security
arrangements for after hours.
Vegagroup operated after hours and through the night, making the store
ready for POS installation the next day.
Commenting on the overall
upgrade of the Food Court, Centre manager for Macquarie Centre Michael
Wappett said, “A trip to Macquarie
Centre wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the many
food outlets in the Food Court. With this in mind, we’ve given
the Food Court a fashionable makeover so that customers can enjoy
its new contemporary ambience, improved amenities and food choices.
We believe that the Food Court will become a destination in itself
for customers to relax, take time out from the shops, and enjoy a
tasty bite with a choice of delicious food from around the globe,
ranging from healthy wraps and salads to Thai and Italian,” said
Michael.

Hungry Jack's
Cabramatta
September 2006
Client:Hungry Jack's
Project Management:Clifton Development Consultants Pty Ltd
Construction Manager:Vegagroup
Site Supervisor:James
Brief:Store fit out following fire damage at HJ Cabramatta restaurant.
Info:The brief was simple; bring back the
store to previous operating conditions within a tight timeline. Hungry
Jack's Cabramatta store is situated at the corner of Cumberland Hwy and
Cabramatta Rd. A busy restaurant if you can imagine.
The fire damage was extensive, but not complete. The first thing was
to make the whole place safe by having the electricians check and isolate
electrical outlets and provide temporary power and lights for the works
to be carried out. Then of course, protect and cover the equipment from
the effects of dust & scratches as the works is being carried out.
A total debris clearance and removals off site was next on the list
to make way for phase 2.
The key challenge was the odour removal by decontaminating both the
contents and the structure in preparation for paint and relevant building
works.
Due to the nature of the job, the scope of work increased by 60 to
70% as the project progressed, but the delivery timeframe remained set
for 2 weeks. For example, the roof had to come off and the entire ceiling
had to be renewed etc.
Vegagroup carried out the project under a construction management agreement,
coordinating processes.
Trades required: Structural engineers, Fire cleaning specialists, Roofers,
Hydraulics, Mechanical & Air-conditioning, Plumbers, Gyprockers, Painters,
Electricians, Phone technicians, Computer etc.
Some of the contractors involved: Powell Mechanical, Channon Refrigeration,
Steamatic, Nutech Engineering.

Wilson Parking / Sydney
P84
Cinema Centre / 521 - 527 Kent St.
August 2006
Client:Wilson Parking
Project Management:Vegagroup
Brief:Exterior signs refurbishment.
Info:This was a special project.
Our client
set a particular timeline following their strategic deployment of the
new corporate identity throughout WP car parks nationwide.
So you don't just
show up with your oversized crane and block the street until you
finish. Preparation were underway sometime before to acquire the proper
permissions from the relevant authorities (Our gratitude to the City
of Sydney Council & the Sydney
Police for their support.)
Moreover, all the trades involved needed to be scheduled to deliver
their bit all in a day's work. Keep in mind that the Cinema Centre car
park is a busy operation, considering it's a convenient and ideal location
to park your car and access the surrounding attractions such as the
IMAX Theatre, Queen Victoria Building, Darling Harbour, Chinese Garden,
George Street Cinemas etc.

This is set to become a bright landmark for businesses in the local area.
639
